The makeup world can be a confusing one, when new trends flood the limelight and previous cult products fade back into the shadows. But BB and CC creams are here to stay - so what is the difference? And where does foundation fit into all of this? And what about tinted moisturisers?!
BB (beauty balm) creams and CC (colour correcting) creams are quite alike, but have subtle differences.
A BB Cream is like a light foundation, with skincare benefits - think ingredients like Prickly Pear, Pomegranate, Avocado and Jojoba Oils to moisturise and hydrate skin. If you've got oilier skin, you may be able to get away without a moisturiser when you use a BB cream, but most skin types would still moisturise as well.
A CC Cream has been designed to help correct skin issues, such as sallowness or redness, and will often contain light diffusing particles to help with this. It also tends to offer a little less coverage than foundation.
Tinted moisturisers contain more hydrating skincare ingredients than a foundation and have less colour, so they are a great everyday option if your skin doesn't have much discolouration or you don't want much coverage. A tinted moisturiser will also generally offer less coverage than a BB or CC Cream.
Foundation will always provide the most coverage; especially if you are using a loose mineral powder, which is highly pigmented and easy to build layers of coverage where desired.
