Stay at home beauty

Well… who could have predicted that life, as we know it, would be turned upside down as it has been?

Apart from only being able to see our friends and family via Zoom, we’ve all had to come to terms with the fact that we can’t go to our favourite salons for waxing, facials, haircuts and blow waves – if you can’t DIY, it’s too bad so sad! (Did anyone else taunt their siblings with that phrase as kids?!)

 We all know that we need to #stayathome as much as possible for the time being, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a little pampering and self-care while we try to make the most of it. In fact, we would encourage it. Life at home can be relaxing and rejuvenating for some, but for others it is stressful: navigating working from home, while caring for kids and keeping the household running, all while worrying about ageing parents or unwell friends. Not to mention feeling isolated and lonely, and if you’re struggling right now – please know you’re not alone. Please know that you’re loved, and people care. Truly.

So let’s lighten the mood a little, and enjoy some simple self-care and beauty practices to help uplift your spirit and feel a bit more glam during these strange and frightening times. 

Paint your nails

Simple but effective, and kind of meditative. Maybe now’s the time to practice that nail art you’ve always admired on others?!

Do a face mask

Whether you fancy a sheet mask or one you can use lots of times, we have face masks for everything; hydration, exfoliation, brightening, soothing, clearing congestion. It’s a simple way to improve your skin and relax – bonus points if you do it in the bath.

Try facial rolling

Rose quartz rollers don’t just look pretty. The crystal emits a vibration which releases tension, calms inflammation and encourages cell restoration: it also feels really lovely and relaxing, and can help your serums penetrate the skin for deeper hydration. Why not make the most of your extra time by starting up a facial rolling routine?

Light a candle

Is it the lovely scent, or is it the flickering flame? What exactly is it about lighting a candle that just feels so good? We’re not sure but we’re here for it; and our candle of choice is the lush, earthy Study of Trees candle from Melbourne brand Milligram Studio.

Try herbal tea

Too much caffeine can increase feelings of anxiety for some, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a lovely cup of hot herbal tea. Eat the chocolate

Now is not the time to feel guilty for a little comfort eating, and might I add – dark chocolate is also PACKED full of antioxidants, which are good for every cell in your body. Now’s also the time to stay connected with your loved ones, by sending a good old-fashioned card or letter by snail mail, or maybe a little uplifting gift. I’ve been finding joy in sending handwritten letters to friends, posting books I’ve loved and thought a friend would also love, and sending some little self-care treats. 

Sending so much love and positivity to you. It’s a tough time, but there are silver linings if you look for them, too. Stay well and take care of yourself, and others.
