For those of you that follow our instagram (nearly 10,000 of you!) you'll know that we're slightly obsessed with The Bachelorette. Sam Frost is taking what has been a pretty outdated show and making it seriously fun - I mean, she has all the power and a ton of guys lusting after her...there's a lot to love (or at least laugh about).
But you know when they do those competitions? The ones where they make the blokes do stuff to win some alone time with Sam? Well, apart from the old person one (that was gold!) the rest have left me a bit cold. Do I really need to know whether my partner can win a prize at a carnival? Pfft, hardly.
So it got me thinking, if I was on the show, what would I be getting the guys to do to test out their worthiness as a partner?
Competition = domestic god
Recent data from the 'Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia Survey' shows that when it comes to housework, labour is still shared unevenly. The data found women completed about 16 hours of housework a week, more than double the amount performed by men. They also spent more time caring for children, running domestic errands and babysitting.
In my household, my husband does the lion share of domestic work and I'm the major bread winner. And I love it. So if I was single again and on the hunt for a great partner, I'd be testing out domestic god-skills and seeing if potential candidates were happy to at least pitch in 50/50.
Competition time on the show could include a cleaning comp - the winner being the contestant that could finish the vacuum cleaning, washing and put dinner on the table. Now that's my idea of a keeper!
What competition would you be running to test out the contestants worthiness?
