The power of journaling

I remember my first ever journal. It was given to me by my mum and it was pink and had a little lock and I loved it so much! The thought of keeping secrets and hiding them away from my sister totally overrode the fact that I didn’t have any secrets. I was ten and totally wore my heart on my sleeve. So I asked mum, what should I write about? She told me to write whatever was on my mind. Interesting encounters of the day. Stories, poetry, whatever.

It’s pretty amusing reading back on my journals. Particularly those from the ridiculous teenage years.

But what I gained from writing was stillness of mind, from getting whatever was on my mind off my chest and onto a page.

But now? Urgh I spend all day writing and reviewing and working and when I get home I just want to sit on the couch and watch Masterchef! So when JOM (Journey of Me by Wellineux) came across our path at Natural Supply Co I yelped for joy!

Finally – a journal that would help make journaling easy.

JOM - an 8-month wellness journal with a daily reflection page

Containing 392 beautifully designed and inspiring pages, JOM offers:

- Thought provoking exercises

- Regular wellness assessments

- Suggestions and tips

- Monthly planners

- A guided month to discover your best life

- 7 months to support you in making change in 7 key areas of wellness

Endorsed by credentialed wellness professionals including Dr. Nat Kringoudis, Amy Crawford, Megan Dalla-Camina and Pete Evans, this 2nd edition of JOM has been updated with more content and a vibrant new design.

How JOM works:

  1. Start your journey in the first month by getting to know the real you. Create your very own vision for what your best life looks like.

NB: I loved doing these exercises – there’s so many thought-provoking questions and answers that it definitely didn’t feel like completing my homework!

  1. Monthly over the next 7 months, new dimensions of wellness will support you towards your wellness goals.
  2. Weekly, be inspired by beautiful pictures and quotes.

NB: Sometimes I just flick through the diary at night and I feel instantly calmer!

  1. Daily, thought-provoking topics will provide reflection and trigger ideas.

Why is journaling good for us?

Firstly, when using JOM you’re required to really consider your values and make sure that they’re aligned with our goals. Its thought-provoking stuff but the authors make it feel really comfortable and easy.

Secondly, by completing JOM on a regular basis (I’ll admit it – I don’t do it every day but I don’t think that matters because the pages / days aren’t numbered so each time you open up JOM you can just pick up from where you left off) you’re creating a record of your progress.

You also get to regularly check in with your core goals and see how you’re feeling each month. It’s a really lovely non-judgmental way to monitor your progress (or lack thereof in my case which has helped me get back on track).

I’m excited to look back on the journal in a few months’ time and see where I’ve come from, mentally and emotionally. I’ve already learnt lots about myself and I’ve only completed the first couple of weeks!

Thirdly, JOM helps me articulate what is important in my life – because it sets it all out for you and then you get to pick and choose what’s right for you and what resonates.

Finally, because JOM is full of exercises that you can complete in your own time, I haven’t had to scratch around for content or think too hard about what to write. It’s really helped me to find inspiration beyond my own mind-set. Trust me, no one wants to be stuck inside this head of mine for long! JOM has really helped me focus on me, my health and wellbeing and my future goals.

You can buy your JOM here.

Do you keep a journal? If so, what kind of topics do you write about? Do you ever need inspiration to know what to write about? What goals are you working towards this year?
