Over the past few years we can all safely say that people have been shifting away from chemicals and synthetic substances in their day to day lives. What probably started with “organic” food, the trend has definitely begun to creep its way into the skincare industry, and with good reason. Nature has generously supplied us with an abundant wealth of botanical extracts and oils with which to pamper ourselves, and there is none more beautiful and in synergy with our skin than Jojoba Oil.
Jojoba Oil is the liquid wax produced from the seed of the simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) plant, and its chemical structure is very similar to the sebum produced by human skin. Sebum’s role is to waterproof and lubricate the skin and maintain its overall health, however as we hit our early to mid twenties, the production of sebum begins to decline allowing moisture to escape from our skin. This results in the start of fine lines and wrinkles, and ultimately the ageing process. By applying Jojoba oil, we are able to trick our skin into thinking it’s our own and thus slow down the ageing process. Jojoba oil is readily absorbed across the skin surface penetrating into the deeper layers where it is able to deliver its potent antioxidants, vitamins and fatty acids without clogging pores and still allowing skin to breathe naturally. Universally known as “natures wrinkle fighter” Jojoba oil soothes, moisturises and luxuriously hydrates like no other substance on earth.
Just when we thought Jojoba couldn’t get any better we have to finish by saying that the Jojoba shrub is completely environmentally friendly. Being a desert shrub it requires very little water to survive, contains a natural insect repellent (meaning no added pesticides), and actually draws carbon from the atmosphere making it one of the most environmentally friendly plants on the planet.
